India

I came to know about India from my father as he used to travel there for business. At that time I was just
5 years old and didn’t understand what a foreign country was like. I used to wait for my father to come
back and my mother also did not explain why he was not at home as she thought I was too young to
understand where he was going.

Once when my father came back from a business trip, he brought a small Taj Mahal (pictured below) as
a souvenir. The Taj Mahal caught my attention and that’s the very first time when I dreamed about
traveling to India.

When I look back at my childhood, I always liked to think I was brave and not lonely but deep down I felt
alone. I thought I was doing good in my studies and everyday life but that was not the case, living
through my adolescence phase was really struggling and also thought about giving up completely.

As I was thinking about running away from my reality, I saw the Taj Mahal that my dad brought from India
and I took it as a sign. India is a place for my escape, it is far from the reality that I hated and wanted to
run away from. And that’s why a few years later I came to India to escape from my life in South Korea.

While the new phase started off well and with great promise; it was a bit later during my time in India
that I faced a life-changing incident. That incident put me through a more difficult time than what I had
ever experienced before. Due to this incident, I left India and never wanted to come back.

This allowed me to have a wonderful journey around the world. So my relationship with India is like a
love-hate relationship with a mother. We hate her for the hard lessons she taught us but later we are
grateful for it.

As I said in my zero column, when I returned to Korea after 10 years of travel, I was pretty much left with
nothing and had to start from scratch. The only asset I had was experience. I started posting that
experience on my blog. This would lead on to me starting to teach others about my experiences.

I’m not wealthy but I work when I want to work, travel freely, and above all, life allows me to spend a lot
of time with my family and friends. The reason I was able to enjoy such a free life came from my
experiences, and the experience itself was a valuable asset. And it was India 10 years ago that made it
possible to accumulate the asset of experience, along with my subsequent travel around the world.

We get to experience so many different things in life and I am grateful for it. Hence, I missed India and
decided to come back here. I felt like mother India was calling me so I visited after a month. Because
when I thought about India it reminded Me of my past that I thought that I had left behind.

Mother India

Thus I decided to travel the world and I wanted to find the reason why it happened to me and who I really
am.

All these experiences have made me the strong woman that I am today. From my Mother India, I
received so much love and she taught me so many lessons that helped me grow I love you and respect
you Mother India.
